The lack of directional input rears its ugly head once again. I think this might be due to them not scaling to the higher res of the Vive thus appearing smaller. Though I did find the crosshairs were a lot easier to see on PSVR than PC. Playing with DS4 on PSVR is pretty much the same as with a gamepad on PC. KB+M might sound like a weird way to play, I haven't played like that since TF2 on the DK1 but I kind of miss it.

While on PC the game can use WASD to move and has a bunch of other inputs mapped to other keys, there were no rotation inputs mapped to either keys or the mouse. Makes it feel a lot more like a traditional FPS, and is certainly an interesting experience. If you can stomach smooth movement and rotation, give it a try. I tried it with an Xbox One controller, and it was a lot more fun than I expected. Something I haven't seen talked about much is how the game is playable with a gamepad on PC. I'm hoping this one's a SteamVR beta bug and not a hardware issue. If I just held my thumb in one spot, it wouldn't move at all, even if I was on the very edge of the touchpad. Not entirely sure what the problem was, but I was only able to move as long as I was also moving my thumb around on the trackpad.

No way has been found to mod that in yet. With both of those mods, movement is always relative to the way you're looking, not where your hand is pointing which is disappointing if you're used to it being the other way round. There's a mod that uses AutoHotkey that works with the Rift thumbstick better, plus adds turning for front facing setups.

This can't be fixed by mods though.ĭoom VFL is a fantastic mod, especially with the added haptics, although it's not as great on Rift. Guns lag behind your body while running around making run and gunning really hard. Smooth movement on PSVR with Aim controller is kind of broken. Can get used to it, but not as easy to pick up on as with Vive or Rift. Touchpad is pretty small making it hard to differentiate between a teleport, from the centre of the touchpad, or a dash, from the edge of the touchpad. On Rift, a little bit annoying due to the constant clicking of the thumbstick required. Teleporting/dashing works fine on the Vive works fine. Also no snap turning for front facing setups. Unmodded there's no smooth movement on PC, which is already well known. The game's just really broken on every platform. I might be a little late to the party, but I wanted to give this one some time for mods and patchs to release, to really capture every way to play. Vive, Rift, Windows MR, PSVR with DS4, Move and Aim controllers. Just in time for the release of Fallout 4, I've published a mega comparison of Doom VFR on pretty much every platform it's playable on, which I hope is of some interest to people around here.
